A Season Member Spotlight

0 min read

We interviewed Terrie to hear more about her experience with the Season program. In her own words, here's what she had to say:

What made you interested in the Season program?

“Well, I had made some improvements in my eating habits, but I had done that before. I always go back to my old ways. So I thought this might help me change them on a permanent basis or at least long term. I think every person who’s overweight has lost weight before, and then you gain it all back and then you lose it again and then you gain it back. I wanted some help to maintain the weight loss and change my habits so I wouldn’t go back to where I was before.”

How would you describe Season to a friend or coworker?

“What [Season] does is it helps you look at food in a different way. It helps you recognize. It gives you recipes if you’re not a creative person in the kitchen. It gives you assistance in lowering your blood sugar by helping you focus on the different types of foods you can eat and what’s good for you, what’s bad for you. They also have some videos that I can watch and learning segments that are available. It’s good for you. They’re going to help you with the food. They have some good recipes. And you have somebody to talk to. Having someone to discuss this with, can reinforce the good over the bad. “

Terrie’s favorite recipes:

Unstuffed Cabbage Soup

Quick Blueberry Oat Pancakes

What impact has Season had on your health?

“I have more energy. That is the biggest thing I’ve noticed. I actually have more energy to do some of the things I used to like to do. I don’t just sit on my behind all the time. I actually get up and move. I don’t like sitting down all the time anymore. And of course, my blood sugar is in the normal range. I’ve had diabetes for ten years and this is the first year that it’s ever been within normal range.”

They lowered my metformin….It’s given me the idea that eventually, I could be almost through with the diabetic medication – eventually. That’s a bit longer term.

What is the most important thing you learned about managing your health with Season?

“How much weight has an impact on your health. Because, like I said I’ve been diabetic for a long time and I’ve always been overweight but I didn’t realize how much better it would by losing 30 lbs. I know it’s not that difficult to understand but I didn’t think I would see the results so clearly. That losing this weight made a huge difference. I’ve lost 35 lbs. It’s made a big difference."

[Terrie adopted a new way to measure her blood sugar too.] "I didn’t realize that the two hours after the meal would give you a better picture of how you’re doing–Season helped me with that."

What other benefits did you see from meeting with Amanda [your Season registered dietitian]?

“Talking to somebody helps you navigate through the negative voices. Almost everybody that is overweight has lost weight before. And, having someone to talk to and Amanda’s been great. It reinforces why you’re working on this, what your goals are, what you’re trying to accomplish. I think it’s important to have that other voice. It encourages you to continue. I would say this is the longest I’ve been on a weight loss streak.”
